The Bruce County Museum & Cultural Centre (BCM&CC) is preparing to host a week of family-friendly entertainment during March Break, with a series of special events and activities March 16 to March 21.

The programming will include movies, wildlife presentations, cultural demonstrations, magic shows and hands-on activities aimed at keeping children and families entertained during the school holiday.

The week kicks off March 16 at 1 p.m., featuring a screening of the 2010 film Alice in Wonderland (rated PG), directed by Tim Burton. The museum will provide free popcorn, although preregistration is recommended as seating is limited.

Wildlife will take centre stage on March 17 at 11 a.m. when representatives from Wild Ontario present Raptors of Ontario, a program that features live birds and explores the habitats, behaviours and conservation of birds of prey found across the province.

Throughout the week, visitors will also be able to watch live heritage demonstrations at the museum. Heritage spinners and weavers, wood turners and marine heritage interpreters will offer demonstrations on March 17, 19, and 21. The museum’s historic Bevan’s General Store will also be animated with costumed interpreters, and storytelling sessions will be held as part of the Riding the Railways exhibit. Demonstrations will vary from day to day.

On March 19 at 11 a.m., families can attend The Balloon Making Machine Show, an interactive performance combining illusions, comedy and elaborate balloon creations.

Cultural programming is scheduled for March 20 in the museum’s Anishnaabwe Endaat gallery where Saugeen First Nation (SFN) Elder Shirley John will lead cultural demonstrations and share seasonal stories while guiding children through a winter-themed craft activity. In the museum’s lower café, SFN Educator Natalka Pucan will host storytelling sessions.

The week concludes on March 21 at 11 a.m. with a performance by magician Steve Baker. During the show, children will also learn a few simple magic tricks they can practice at home.

The March Break Family Fun Days are presented with support from Judy Rich Law Office and media partner 101.7 The One.

Admission to the museum is free for members, while regular admission fees apply for non-members. Registration is required for the scheduled shows and includes entry to the museum.
