Four communities in Bruce and Grey counties participated in United Way Bruce Grey's (UWBG) 2026 Coldest Night of the Year (CNOY) efforts, raising over $132,000 in support of "neighbours experiencing hurt, hunger, and homelessness."
In a March 4 media release from UWBG funds raised will be directed toward critical programs that provide shelter, food security, and vital support for individuals and families facing difficult times.
"The energy and generosity shown across the region reflect a deep commitment to ensuring that everyone has access to safety, stability, and hope," said UWBG Executive Director Francesca Dobbyn. "These results are not just numbers, they represent real impact for people who need it the most," she said.
With two out of the four events exceeding their fundraising goal and one event "on the cusp," the region is now just $15,000 from is full CNOY target.
Meaford exceeded their $20,000 goal by 50% bringing in $30,623. Grey Highlands also set a $20,000 fundraising goal and came close with $18,605. Kincardine, which set a goal of $40,000 exceeded it by $540 and Saugeen Shores, with the largest target of $60,000 fell short by nearly $17,000 raising a total of $43,097.
Saugeen Shores had the largest showing of participants with over 200 walkers and volunteers and all funds went in support of the Southampton Rotary Club. Meaford and Kincardine saw 121 and 122 participants respectively while Grey Highlands had a showing of 48.
Separate from the UWBG events, CNOY events were also held in Owen Sound and Hanover.
