Now in its 17th year, the Spruce the Bruce Program, in collaboration with eight municipalities across Bruce County, is offering over $125,000 in funding to businesses and community partners to revitalize and grow downtown businesses, commercial areas, and communities.
The program is set to launch February 2 and offers 13 grant categories for applicants within eligible Community Improvement Project Areas (CIPAs), supporting a range of projects and enhancements including improvements to downtown storefronts, removing barriers to accessibility on commercial properties, and community signage.
Eligible applicants will receive funding for up to 50% of their improvement costs. The funding excludes taxes and is subject to a maximum per grant with some past recipients being eligible for additional support for new project eleents.
"The program is in high-demand each year, and there's strong recommendation to submit applications early," read a January 29 media release from Bruce County, adding that funding approvals are on a first-come-first-serviced basis.
"Spruce the Bruce helps build vibrant, welcome, and inclusive communities," said Bruce County's Economical Development Manager, Heather Hyde.
In addition to Saugeen Shores, municipalities partnering with the Spruce the Bruce program include Arran-Elderslie, Brockton, Huron-Kinloss, Kincardine, South Bruce, South Bruce Peninsula, and Northern Bruce Peninsula.
