Representatives from Saugeen Shores attended the 2026 Rural Ontario Municipal Association (ROMA) conference in Toronto January 18 to 20. The conference provides rural municipalities with an opportunity to discuss local priorities and aims to develop a solution to rural challenges.
In addition, municipal staff and officials have opportunities to participate in municipal delegation meetings with provincial ministries and all told Saugeen Shores Mayor Luke Charbonneau, Councillor Dave Myette, Chief Administrative Officer Kara Van Myall and Manager of Strategic Initiatives Jill Roote presented to three provincial ministries on behalf of the municipality.
First, the Ministry of Health with a goal of increasing and sustaining provincial funding "for the Grey Bruce Ontario Health Team to fully implement the Primary Care Action Team Plan and ensure everyone in Saugeen Shores and in the region can access care," read a recent release from Saugeen Shores.
Second, the Ministry of Public and Business Service and Procurement with an aim "to approve a second ServiceOntario terminal in Port Elgin to meet rising demand, reduce wait times, and maintain reliable service for residents and businesses."
And third, the Ministry of Energy and Mines looking for support for "municipal capacity funding as a Bruce Power host community to advance new energy infrastructure for the Bruce C Project."
Mayor Luke Charbonneau said meeting with provincial ministries allowed Saugeen Shores to build partnerships that will benefit taxpayers. "By bringing our local priorities to the table, we’re working to make life better and build a strong, healthy and well‑supported community," said Charbonneau.
