In partnership with the Province of Ontario, the Municipality of Arran-Elderslie is announcing "significant funding" through the Municipal Housing Infrastructure Program’s Health and Safety Water Stream, enabling a complete reconstruction of the Elgin Avenue and Matilda Street water system in the community of Tara, "strengthening essential water, wastewater, and stormwater infrastructure to protect the health and safety of local residents."
The Province is contributing $1.8 million which will cover 73% of the total eligible project costs, said a recent media release from the Municipality, leaving Arran-Elderslie responsible for the remaining 27%.
The total cost for the project is estimated at approximately $2.5 million. "Engineering costs are included in the 2026 municipal budget, with construction planned for 2027," the release said.
Arran-Elderslie Mayor Steve Hammell said the Municipality is pleased to see the investment move forward. "Strengthening our water infrastructure is one of those essential projects that residents don’t always see day-to-day, but it makes a big difference for the future of our community," he said.
