Bruce County is hosting a Household Hazardous Waste Collection Event on Saturday, September 27 in Southampton.

Bruce County residents can bring their household hazardous waste (HHW) from their home, garage, or basement to the Southampton Works Yard, 429 Peel Street, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. to ensure that it's handled responsibly.

HHW materials include paints and stains, fertilizers, fuel, propane tanks, used oil, pharmaceuticals, fire extinguishers, aerosols, batteries, antifreeze, oil filters, pesticides, solvents, household cleaners, fluorescent lights, and pool chemicals.

A full list is available at brucecounty.on.ca/sites/default/files/accepted_household_hazardous_and_special_waste_materials_2.pdf.

Please note that commercial or industrial waste, agricultural waste, flares and ammunitions, or PCBs will not be accepted. Only containers up to 30 litres will be accepted and waste must be in containers that can be disposed of as containers will not be emptied and returned.

Those attending the HHW Collection Event must remain in their vehicle. Place waste materials in an open trunk for unloading by event staff.

Empty metal paint cans are blue box recyclable.
