The Town of Saugeen Shores unveiled its new Centre for Training Excellence on Monday, September 8, a two-storey live fire training facility designed to provide local firefighter training and emergency preparedness.
The Centre is located on Lehnen Street, beside the Port Elgin water tower, and houses training for training in live fire, search and rescue, ladder deployment, rapid intervention teams, roof operations, self-contained breathing apparatus, and more.
Mayor Luke Charbonneau called the Centre a "tremendous asset" and said it ensures Saugeen Shores firefighters are trained using state-of-the-art equipment, enabling protection of residents and businesses as well as volunteer firefighters.
"This facility demonstrates the Town's commitment to safety and emergency preparedness," said Charbonneau.
Mayor Charbonneau and Fire Chief Ed Melanson were joined by Ontario Solicitor General Michael S. Kerzner and Minister of Rural Affairs Lisa Thompson for a ribbon cutting ceremony Monday.
